Leap Day

It is leap day! I find it a good thing, I can always use an extra day. I just wish I had nothing to do today. But, maybe since I have an extra day I will get close to being caught up!
I found this article that had different views on the day.

February 29, 2008
One day. Or 24 hours. Or 1,440 minutes. Or 86,400 seconds.
However you count it, today is a calendar bonus that comes only every four years.

For some, such as business owners, leap day can mean extra profit. For others, such as, say, people who clean portable toilets, it's another day to clean portable toilets.

Leap day is necessary to keep the calendar on track. A solar year – the time it takes the Earth to revolve around the sun – is actually about six hours longer than the 365 days in a normal calendar year.

Traditionally, leap day is a time for women to propose to men, and for people born Feb. 29 to throw really special birthday parties.

But it can come in handy in other ways. For some who might be in a stressful period, such as accountants facing the April 15 tax deadline or taxpayers facing accountant time, the day offers some relief. “An extra day is always welcome,” said Dion Gouws, a La Jolla certified public accountant. “We're pretty busy.” So count him in. He's all for it.

Salaried employees are basically working free today, said Kelly Cunningham, an economist with the San Diego Institute for Policy Research. Hourly workers are luckier because their pay is tied to the time they work.
“I'm giving my employer an extra day of work,” said Cunningham, who gets a salary. “Maybe I'll call in sick.”

It's not that bad for students. Even though public schools are open today, the school calendar is adjusted so students are in class the same number of days, leap year or not.
